Summary:
The Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation takes a non-clinical approach to mental health, providing people with serious mental illness (SMI) with opportunities for friendship, employment, housing, education, and social skills. In 2022, Westside Community Services established the Westside Clubhouse in downtown San Francisco, which Atlas Clarity supported through a planning grant. The Clubhouse currently serves over 60 regular members, who can attend Tuesday through Thursday to participate in work units, a shared lunch, wellness activities, educational workshops, social opportunities, and community outings.
In 2023, Atlas Clarity developed a member survey in collaboration with Westside Clubhouse staff to better understand members’ demographics and backgrounds, as well as track changes their experiences and outcomes over time. Ever since, Atlas Clarity and Clubhouse staff offer a paper survey in three modes—self-administered, proctored, or interviewer-administered—as well as an electronic survey, to members every few months. Using the survey data, Atlas Clarity regularly shares deidentified member feedback with Clubhouse staff to inform program improvement. Quantitative demographic data also supports Westside in obtaining additional funding for the Clubhouse, as well as fulfilling reporting requests for current funders. Finally, Atlas Clarity publishes reports describing the Clubhouse’s services, impact, and membership.
